Family Enterprise

The Family Enterprise Division of IFF Advisors, Inc., is designed to strengthen the business of the family. We are referring not only to economic success, but emotional well-being and the capacity to function as a successful social enterprise. Healthy families demonstrate confidence and competency in their relationships, financial affairs and social interactions.

We understand the challenges and responsibility opportunities of raising strong families, dealing appropriately with financial success, passing important values down to children and grandchildren, responding to differences in talents and attitudes within and between generations and contending with social pressures and the expectations of others.

We focus on:

    • Consensus building. Many children, who are raised in families with strong, decisive parents, often do not observe the skill of joint decision-making. Decisions seemingly mandated rather than discussed. As adults, these same children are often asked to cooperate/collaborate with their siblings in making joint decisions that affect the family as a whole. Developing techniques that allow this collaboration to occur in a positive and productive manner is necessary for the healthy development of the family and the individuals.

    • Communication skills. Effective communication is one of the critical skills contributing to life-long success. The ability to articulate a position, define a goal and make a statement that is heard is necessary for confident and competent families. Too often it is the loudest voice that gets recognition. Listening carefully, discussing issues and expressing oneself provides respect for self and family.

    • Leadership training. Leadership is developed through process. Skills are needed within each generational grouping. The position does not automatically fall to the oldest or even the smartest, but rather the best prepared. True leadership requires skill development, willingness, practice and opportunities.

    • Financial skills and experience. Dealing with the financial aspects of life is not the talent or passion of every family member, yet every member of a financial family should be taught basic financial principles and wealth responsibility. Developing such skills enhances confidence and competency.

    • Dispute/conflict resolution. Problems will arise. Disagreements are inevitable. Skill development in the area of conflict resolution will sustain long-term family harmony through short-term rough spots.

We seek to bind together the members of the family by weaving shared values, community responsibility and philanthropic passion into the fabric of the family’s life and values. We do this by servicing the immediate needs of the family as well as anticipating issues before they arise.
